The portions with solid sidelines or dotted underlines show the matters not in- cluded in the original International Standard. The IEC Standard number is based on the new numbering system of IEC Stan- dards put in force on January 1st 1997, and the Standard published before the said date is numbered by adding 60000 to the former number. This is only the change in the numbering system and the contents remain unchanged. Section One-General 1 General 1 . 1 Scope This Standard is a sectional specification associated with generic speci- fication JIS C 5201-1, and applicable to fixed chip resistors for use in electronic equipment (hereafter referred to as “resistors”). Remarks : The International Standard corresponding to this Standard is given below. IEC 60115-8 : 1989 Fixed resistors for use in electronic equipment Part 8 : Sectional specification :Fixed chip re- sistors 1 . 2 Object The object of this Standard is to prescribe preferred ratings and char- acteristics and to select from JIS C 5201-1 the appropriate Quality Assessment pro- cedures, tests and measuring methods and to give general performance requirements for this type of resistor. Test severities and requirements prescribed in detail specifications referring to this sectional specification shall be of equal or higher performance level, because lower performance levels are not permitted. 1 . 3 Normative references The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this Standard, constitute provisions of this Standard. If the indication of the year of coming into effect is given to these referred standards, only the edition of indicated year constitutes the provision of this Standard but the revi- sion and amendment made thereafter are not applied. The normative references without the indication of the year of coming into effect apply limiting only to the most recent edition (including the amendment). Detail specifications shall not specify requirements inferior to those of the JIS C 5201-1, this Standard or blank detail specification. When more severe requirements are included, they shall be listed in Sub-clause 1 . 8 of the detail specification and indicated in the test schedules, for example by an asterisk (*). Remarks : The information given in the Sub-clauses 1 . 4 . 1 and 1 . 4 . 3 may, for convenience, be presented in tabular form. The following informa- tion shall be given in each detail specification and the values quoted shall preferably be selected from those given in the appropriate clause of this sectional specification. 1 . 4 . 1 Outline drawing and dimensions There shall be an illustration of the chip resistor as an aid to easy recognition and for comparison of the chip resistor with others. Dimensions and their associated tolerances, which affect interchangeability and mounting, shall be given in the detail specification. Normally the numerical values shall be given for the length, width and height of the body or, for cylindrical types, the body diameter. When necessary, for example when in a detail specification more than one dissipation value is covered, the di- mensions and their associated tolerances shall be placed in a table below the draw- ing. When the configuration is other than described above, the detail specification shall state such dimensional information as will adequately describe the chip resistor. 1 . 4 . 2 Mounting The detail specification shall give guidance on methods of mounting for normal use. Mounting for test and measurement purposes (when required) shall be in accordance with Sub-clause 4 . 3 1 of JIS C 5201-1. 1 . 4 . 3 Style The style shall, based on Sub-clause 2 . 2 . 3 of JIS C 5201-1, be coded by the symbol which denotes circular chip resistors or rectangular chip resistors and consists of two English letters, the symbol which denotes nominal values of length and diameter (or width) in millimeter and consists of four numerals as given in a) and b) of Sub-clause 1 . 4 . 3 of this Standard;and the symbol denoting metric coding and consists of one English letter. a) Circular chip resistors I RC161OM I 1 . 2 5 + 0 0 : ; I I RC2012M I 2.0f0.1 I I RC3514M I 3.5k0.2 I 1 . 4 * 0.2 I I 2 . 2 : : : ; I 1 RC5922M I 5.9f0.2 Remarks : For coding of styles, the symbols specified in Annex to this Stan- dard may be used.
