Proposed Eighth Edition of the Standard for Intrusion-Detection Units, UL 639 as an American National Standard. Proposed Eighth Edition of the Standard for Intrusion-Detection Units, UL 639, as an American National Standard. The following revisions are included: (a) standard references are proposed to be updated, (b) the word natural is proposed to be deleted from the term natural gray, (c) the text No. when referring to wire sizes is proposed to be deleted and (d) the scope paragraph addressing investigation of new and different features of products is proposed to be deleted. RATIONALE Proposal submitted by: Louis Chavez, Underwriters Laboratories Inc. UL proposes the Eighth Edition of the Standard for Intrusion-Detection Units, UL 639, as an American National Standard. The following revisions are included: (a) Standard references are proposed to be updated UL proposes to update some of the references that are contained in UL 639 to correct standard titles and to replace standards which have been withdrawn. (b) The word natural is proposed to be deleted from the term natural gray Natural gray is an undefi ned term that is no longer used in the National Electrical Code. Therefore, UL proposes that the word natural be deleted from the term natural gray. This proposal is consistent with Article 200 of the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70. (c) The text No. when referring to wire sizes is proposed to be deleted The No. is no longer used to describe wire sizes. This proposed revision correlates with the National Electrical Code. UL requirements are not intended to address issues specifi c to the certifi cation of a product. UL determined that paragraph 1.4 addressed issues specifi c to the certifi cation of a product. Therefore, UL is proposing to delete this paragraph. The certifi cation information addressed in paragraph 1.4 has been relocated to the Foreword of the standard.
