    23、distancefromtheendsequaltoatleast20timesthesamplethickness.Makesomereferencemarks,e.g.Vickersindentations,onthesubstratealongastraightlineatlengthdirection,sothatthefinalprofilecanbemeasuredatthesamelocationandinthesamedirectionastheinitialone.Thisprocedureisessentialwhentheinitialprofileissomewhatd

    24、ifferentfromaperfectcircle.Itisrecommendedthat,wherehardnessindentsareusedasreferencemarks,indentationsshouldbeproducedusingamicrohardnesstesterataloadofnogreaterthan1kg.Formeasuringtheprofile,thesampleshallliefreely,withoutanyexternalstress.Placethestripontwosupports,sothatitoverhangseachsupportbya

    25、quarterofitslength;proceedsimilarlyforadisc.NOTEInmanycases,supportingthesampleonitsendswillhavenegligibleeffectuponthecurvature.However,theuseofsupportswillavoidproblemswithstabilityofthesampleifoneorbothendsofthesamplearenotperpendiculartothesides.Especiallyforthinsamples,ensurethattheweightofthes

    26、ampledoesnotchangeitsshape:turningthestrip(ordisc)overonthesupportsshouldleavetheprofileunchanged,exceptforthesign.Inthecaseofopticalmicroscopy,foreachprofile,measurethecoordinates(Xfzi)ofabout10pointsdistributeduniformlyalongthepredefinedmeasuringrange.Theordinatezicorrespondstotheverticalpositiono
