4、1Index32DeCidingWhethertoUSethisguideThisguidedescribeshowtocreatepeerrelationshipsbetweentwoclustersandbetweentwoVservers.PeerrelationshipsenableclusterstocommunicatewithotherclustersandVserverstocommunicatewithotherVservers.Youmustcreateinterclusterpeerrelationshipstoreplicatedatabetweendifferentg

5、eographicallocationsorbetweenVserversondifferentclusters.Youshouldusethisguideifyouwanttocreatepeerrelationshipsanddonotwantalotofconceptualbackgroundforthetasks.Thisguidedoesnotcovereveryoptionandprovidesminimalbackgroundinformation.Thisguideassumesthatthetwoclustersinthepeerrelationshipthatyouwill

AtleastoneinterclustcrLIFmustbeconfiguredoneverynodeinthelocalclusterandoneverynodeintheremotecluster.ProvisioninginterclusterLIFsononlysomenodesoftheclusterisnotasupportedconfiguration.Tip:Tomakeiteasiertoidentifythenodewherea

12、ninterclusterLIFresides,itisagoodideatouseanamingconventionthatindicatesthenodeonwhichtheinterclusterLIFwascreated,followedbyic#oricl#toindicatetheLIFtypeandnumber.Forexample,thesecondoftwointerclusterLIFsonthefourthnodeofClusterOImightbenamedcluster01-04ic02.ThefirstletterofaLIFnameshouldbeeitheral

13、etteroranunderscore.EachinterclusterLIFrequiresanIPaddressdedicatedforinterclustercommunication.TheIPaddressesassignedtointerclustcrLIFscanresideinthesamesubnetasdataLIFsorinadifferentsubnet.Yourclusterpeeringtopologyshouldusefull-meshconnectivity,meaningthateveryinterclusterLIFonthelocalclustershou

14、ldbeabletocommunicatewitheveryinterclustcrLIFontheremotecluster.AsinterclusterLIFsbecomeavailableorunavailable,thelistofactiveIPaddressesusedbytheclustercanchange.ThediscoveryofactiveIPaddressesisautomaticincertainevents,suchaswhenanodereboots.Thecreationofapeerrelationshiprequiresonlyoneremoteclust

15、eraddress.Note:IfthenodehostingtheinterclusterLIFaddressgoesdownandtheaddressbecomesunavailable,theclusterpeerrelationshipmightnotberediscovered.Therefore,itisabestpracticetoconfigureatleastoneinterclusterIPaddressfromeachnodeinbothclusters,sothatthepeerrelationshipremainsstableifanodefails.Determin

16、ingwhethertousesharedordedicatedportsforinterclustercommunicationWhenyouconfigureaclusterpeerrelationship,youassigninterclustcrLIFstoportscapableofhandlinginterclustercommunications.Beforeselectingtheports,youhavetodeterminewhethertousededicatedportsforinterclustercommunicationortoshareportsthatarea

17、lsousedbythedatanetwork.Networkportsinaclusterhaverolesthatdefinetheirpurposeandtheirdefaultbehavior.PortroleslimitthetypesofLIFsthatcanbeassignedtoaport.InterclusterLlFsuseonlydataportsorinterclusterports.YoucanassignanyEthernetporttypeinthesystemtheroleofdataorintercluster,includingphysicalports(s

18、uchaseeoref)andlogicalports(suchasaVLANoraninterfacegroup).AdataportisusedfordatatrafficandcanbeaccessedbyNFS,CIFS,FC,oriSCSIclientsfordatarequests.YoucancreateVLANsandinterfacegroupsondataports.VLANsandinterfacegroupshavethedataportrolebydefault.Aninterclusterportisusedexclusivelyforcommunicationbe

EachinterclusterLIFonaclusterinapeerrelationshipshouldberoutabletoeveryinterclusterLIFoftheothercluster.Whenyouassigntheinterclusterroletoaport,DataONTAPautomaticallyconfiguresanonmodifiablefailovergroupconsistingofinterclusterportsfortheinterclusterLIFs.Dataprotocolscannotfailoverorm

20、igratetoaninterclusterport.IfyouusedDataONTAPoperatingin7-Modeandusedadedicatedportforreplicationtraffic,itislikelythatyouwillwanttouseadedicatednetworkforclusteredDataONTAP.Mostofthenetworkingconsiderationsyouencounteredwhenusingreplicationin7-ModealsoapplytoclusteredDataONTAP.1.ANtypeandbandwidthI

21、fyouhaveahigh-speednetwork,suchas10GbE,youmighthaveenoughlocalLANbandwidthtoperformreplicationusingthesame10GbEportsusedfordataaccess.Ifyouhavea10GbEnetwork,youshouldcompareyouravailableWANbandwidthtoyourLANbandwidth.IftheavailableWANbandwidthissignificantlylessthan10GbE,youmightbelimitedtothenetwor

22、kutilizationthattheWANcansupport.DatachangerateandreplicationintervalIfyouplantousethepeerrelationshipforreplication,considerhowyouravailablebandwidthwillhandlethelevelofclientactivityduringthereplicationinterval.IftheWANbandwidthissimilartothatoftheLANportsandreplicationwilloccurduringregularclient

23、activity,thendedicateEthernetportsforinterclustercommunicationtoavoidcontentionbetweenreplicationandthedataprotocols.Considertheamountofdatathatwillbereplicatedineachintervalandwhetheritrequiressomuchbandwidththatitcouldcausecontentionwithdataprotocolsftrshareddataports.Ifyouusethepeerrelationshipfo

24、rreplicationandreplicationissettooccuronlywhenminimaltonoclientactivityoccurs,youmightbeabletousedataportsforinterclusterreplicationsuccessfully,evenwithoutaIOGbELANconnection.NetworkutilizationbydataprotocolsIfthenetworkutilizationgeneratedbythedataprotocols(CIFS,NFS,iSCSI)isabove50%,thenyoushouldd

25、edicateportsforinterclustercommunicationtoallowfornon-degradedperformanceifanodefailoveroccurs.PortavailabilitySharingportsfordataandinterclustercommunicationeliminatestheextraportcountsrequiredwhenusingdedicatedports.Whendataportsforinterclustercommunicationareshared,theinterclusterLIFscanbemigrate
